It recently completed a plant expansion, increasing its capacity more than 50 percent and providing it with more than 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space. In 2003, the company introduced SunBlinds and SunShades, mini-blinds and pleated fabric shades between the panes of glass in its casement, picture, awning, bay and bow windows, as well as its sliding patio doors. Headquarters: Bayport, MN Andersen, which reports making over 5 million windows and doors annually, ranked 104th in Forbes Magazine’s 2004 annual listing of America’s largest private companies. Forbes estimated Andersen’s 2003 sales at $2.15 billion, up from $2 billion in 2002. In 2004, the manufacturer completed a new 150,000-square-foot extrusion facility in North Branch, MN, that produces lineal window and door components made with the company’s Fibrex wood/plastic composite material.

MARVIN WINDOWS & DOORSHeadquarters: Warroad, MN Marvin opened its first East Coast plant in 2004. The new 200,000-square-foot facility in Roanoke, VA, produces the Integrity line of windows and doors, combining a fiberglass composite exterior with a wood interior. The facility is expected to create 150 jobs by the end of 2005 and 350 by the end of 2008. It also has a joint venture operation, Tecton Products, that manufactures fiberglass pultrusions. Marvin has a network of wholesale distribution branches and approximately 4,500 retail dealers in the United States. It also sells products in Canada, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. PELLA CORP.Headquarters: Pella, IA Forbes Magazine estimated Pella’s annual sales at $1.06 billion, ranking the Iowa-based manufacturer 272nd in the publication’s 2004 list of America’s largest private companies. In 2004, Pella moved to expand its vinyl window and door capacity once again, announcing plans to open a new 150,000-square-foot ThermaStar by Pella plant in W. Columbia, SC. ThermaStar by Pella vinyl windows and patio doors, along with other products in the company line, are featured in the Pella Design Centers at Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse stores across the country. THERMA-TRU DOORSHeadquarters: Maumee, OH Fortune Brands Inc., a $6 billion consumer product company, acquired Therma-Tru in 2003. At the time, it was reported the door maker had a 25 percent market share in the exterior door business. Fortune Brands reports Therma-Tru annual sales at $350 million. In 2004, Therma-Tru rolled out a program to expand sales through Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse stores, with the manufacturer’s fiberglass entry systems now stocked at the retailer’s locations throughout the United States
